The Mellow Method To Candle Care
When we think about what it is we want out of our candles it is a few things. Those things centre around a safe, longer, and cleaner burn.
Fruity Mellow Moment Soy Candle Collection.
Before you light your soy candle the first time
Before lighting your candle, it is essential that you find a flat, fire resistant surface to place it on. It must be out of reach from children, pets, draughts, furniture, and any form of flammable material.
Before lighting your candle for the first time, please make sure the wick is 5mm in length, however we will trim this before sending. When lighting the wick please use a long lighter or match to avoid burning your fingers.
Starting your soy candle
It is essential that once you light your soy candle, you should leave it burning for around 3 to 4 hours to ensure it creates a wide wax pool reaching close to the edge of the jar. If you do not complete this step, you run the risk of your candle tunnelling and not achieving an optimal strong scent throw.
Due to the natural of the melting and cooling process, skipping the step above means that your soy candle will 'remember' the width of the previous burn and tunnel down the centre. This will reduce the soy candles ability to burn correctly and shorten the life of your candle.
Maintaining your soy candle
Each time you wish to light your candle and relax be sure to leave them burning for no longer than 3 hours and follow the next few steps each time.
- Trim your wick back down to 5mm and do not let it fall into the wax, this will avoid wick mushrooming, excessive smoking, and overheating if the flame is too large. You may find you trim your wick more in your soy candle more than the outdated paraffin wax due to the differing melting points.
- If you see 'wet' patches on the surface at first do not worry, due to the wax being made of responsibility sourced soybean oil, it is naturally predisposed to releasing excess oils during temperature changes.
- Cracks in the surface of the soy wax is natural, along with it looking different through the sides of the glass, adhesion can change during heating and cooling so please do not worry.
- If you wick moves off centre, put out the flame, wait a few minutes and re-centre.
- Maintain the same general standard of care, keep it away from children, pets, draughts, flammable material and do not move it while lit or leave it unsupervised.
After putting the soy candle light out
Your candle jar will be hot, please leave it to fully cool down before touching or moving your soy candle.
You may want to cover your candle whilst cold and not in use to prevent dirt and debris getting into it and preserve the natural scent.
Discarding your soy candle
When your soy candle wax reaches around 10mm at the bottom of the jar, it is time to discard your candle. Please do not pour molten wax down the sink as it will cool and block your drain. You can clean out the jar and repurpose it.
